PIN Pad Theft Still a Problem

Park Royal mall retailers (located in West Vancouver, BC) reported debit card PIN pads from three shops were stolen on March 7 during the lunch hour, police stated in a written release. The theft scheme may be similar to a number last year where thieves swapped legitimate PIN pads with replacements rigged to record private codes from shoppers. After recording hundreds of codes, the thieves swapped the pads again and used the codes to steal money from bank accounts.
